Seguin eye care

Eyelid and cosmetic eyelid surgery in Seguin, TX

Heavy, drooping or turned eyelids can block your vision, irritate your eyes and make you look tired. Eyelid surgery restores both function and a refreshed appearance.

What it can look like

What is eyelid & cosmetic surgery?

With age, the skin of the upper lids stretches and sags (dermatochalasis), and the muscle that lifts the lid can weaken (ptosis). Together they can hang over the lashes, block your upper field of vision and cause brow strain and fatigue. The lower lids can also lose their tone and turn outward (ectropion) or inward (entropion).

Eyelid surgery can be functional, to restore vision and protect the eye, cosmetic, to refresh a tired appearance, or both. When drooping lids block your vision on a visual field test, insurance often covers the procedure.

Signs you may benefit

  • Heavy upper lids or skin resting on the lashes
  • Trouble seeing the top of your vision, especially when driving or reading
  • Raising your eyebrows to see, with forehead fatigue
  • A lower lid that sags outward with tearing (ectropion)
  • Lashes rubbing on the eye, with redness and irritation (entropion)
  • Puffiness or bags that make you look tired

Procedures we offer

  • Upper blepharoplasty: removes excess skin and fat
  • Lower blepharoplasty: smooths under-eye bags
  • Ptosis repair: tightens the lid-lifting muscle
  • Ectropion repair: tightens and repositions a lid that turns out
  • Entropion repair: turns an inward-rolling lid and lashes away from the eye

How we evaluate it

We measure lid position, lid muscle strength and tear function, and photograph your lids. A visual field test with the lids in their natural position and again lifted with tape shows how much vision the lids are blocking, which documents medical necessity for insurance.

Treatment options

BlepharoplastyExcess upper lid skin, and sometimes fat, is removed through an incision hidden in the natural lid crease.
Ptosis repairThe muscle that raises the eyelid is tightened or reattached to lift the lid margin to a natural height.
Ectropion repairThe lower lid is tightened at its outer corner so it rests against the eye again, reducing tearing and irritation.
Entropion repairThe lid is repositioned so lashes no longer scratch the cornea.
RecoveryUsually outpatient with local anesthesia and light sedation. Bruising and swelling fade over one to two weeks; cold compresses help.

Questions

Common questions

Will insurance pay for eyelid surgery?

When drooping lids block your vision or lid malposition harms the eye, insurance often covers it. Purely cosmetic surgery is self-pay. We document your visual field test and photos to determine coverage.

Will there be a visible scar?

Upper lid incisions are placed in the natural crease and usually fade to a fine, hard-to-see line.
